Cross Culture

What is cross culture?
Cross culture means going to other places or going beyond borders to meet and understand other peoples of different cultural background.

Name at least five theories used as the bases in the study of cross culture?
Man in Islam is the divine light in man
Culture is the whole complex of ideas, things, activities and traditions produced by men in their historical experience.
History is an indispensable part of almost any research in the study of society and culture.
Globalization is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas, and other aspects of culture.
Cultural relativism is a principle that was established as axiomatic in anthropological research.

Why has the subject of cross culture become more and more important since the beginning of the 21st century?
Because now during this age of globalization, there seems to be no borders among nations and then this is the age of information technology that has made communication among peoples of different nations possible.

Explain these terms, cultural shock, cultural relativism, moral relativism, egalitarianism, ethnic identity?
Cultural shock is the personal disorientation a person may feel when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life due to immigration or a visit to a new country, a move between social environments, or simply travel to another type of life.
Cultural relativism is a principle that was established as axiomatic in anthropological research.
Moral relativism is the view that moral judgments are true or false only relative to some particular standpoint (for instance, that of a culture or a historical period) and that no standpoint is uniquely privileged over all others.
Egalitarianism is a trend of thought that favors equality for particular categories of, or for all, living entities.
Ethnic identity is a socially defined category of people who identify with each other based on a shared social experience or ancestry.

What does Prof. Deddy Mulyana say about the Chinese identity?
According to Prof. Deddy Mulyana about Chinese identity is there are two perspectives about ethnic identity. First, perspective of objective is as passive and static ethnic identity based on categories. For example, language, religion, physical characteristic etc.
Second, perspective of subjective is as active and dynamic ethnic identity. So, according to this perspective is conscious as the point of ethnic identity, not physical characteristic.

What is communication, according to the Arabs?
Some of ways are their character communication just cultural. In other words, the Arabs still not speak honestly or not obvious. They still using nonverbal or body language like gestures.

What are his important points about the Arabs society?
The points are hospitality to guest, nice heart, brave, respect and appreciate. And also the Arabs respect their family especially woman.

Explain body language according to the Japanese society?
According to the Japanese society, the good attitude when you say “hello” or greetings you should bend down (ojigi). Bend down not only for greetings but for give a gift or when you say ‘sorry’.

What important social values do you learn from the Japanese society?
In my opinion, I learned about their respect to other peoples.

Explain Idul Fitri and the tradition of “tatap muka”?
According to me, Idul fitri is an important event in our life to forgive or bersilahturahmi one to another in Islam. Face to face tradition is the best communication.
